About the festival
Festival of Islam is a yearly event aimed at highlighting and showcasing the best of British Muslim Culture. This year’s launch event on 26 December (Boxing Day) 2007 is at the Decorium in Wood Green, North London N22.
The festival of Islam is a wonderful entertaining event underpinned with strong messages promoting cohesion across all communities. The exhibition, the nasheed fest, the activities and the diverse range of people, all come together to create a rich and challenging environment in pursuit of the goal of promoting the peace of Islam in Britain.
The festival is organised by a rich array of youthful talented individuals from across London. The youth of today's British Muslims is thriving!
This family event also seeks to break barriers and build bridges between the variety of cultures and groups that follow the Islamic faith, as well as with other communities with whom we share our space.
Exhibition and Bazaar (11am - 4pm)
There will be an exclusive exhibition on the beliefs, culture and heritage of Muslims. Talks will begin from 11am with inspirational speakers covering topics such as Jesus in Islam with reference from the Qur'an and the importance of good interfaith relations. The exhibition will begin with beautiful recitation from the holy Qur'an by Imam Ahmed Saad.
There will be a Youth and Comedy Show after lunch. Performance from some up and coming stars of the Musilm community such as Truthful Movement alongside well known artists will be followed by a fascinating journey through Tales from Arabian Nights. Comedy from Uncle is sure to bag a ton of laughs.
Other highlights include a vibrant bazaar area with shopping stalls, exhibition of arts and crafts from the Muslim world, children's workshops such as batik and tile painting, international cuisine, henna and face painting, poetry competition and lots more.
Nasheed Fest (from 5:30pm)
The climax of the festival will be a Nasheed Concert in the evening, which includes so far SHAAM, UK's leading nasheed group and the established beats and rhymes of Mecca2Medina. Also performing will be Khaleel Muhammad, a well known soulful artist. Other artists confirmed include Nazeel Azami and Hamza Robertson from Awakening Entertainment. There will also be a comedy performance from Prince Abdi, the only comedian to hail from Somalia. The night will be finished off with a worthwhile auction of some extremely rare Islamic artefacts and pieces. This event will also include high profile speakers and celebrity guests.
